Ah, shipping! The step sellers hate and buyers nervously (and excitedly) wait through. As I always say before I discuss this topic, remember that once the fish leave a sellers hands there is absolutely nothing a seller can do. That said, I prefer to ship using USPS Priority because it’s easiest for everyone. I charge a flat $15 for it, and shipping should be paid at the same time as the rest of the payment. Here’s how my system works:
After you win the auction, it takes about 2-3 days for the payment to clear with paypal. After it clears, I look at each fish carefully to insure you’re getting a healthy fish, and I “purge” them for 24 hours. The fish are then boxed, and shipped out. You will be e-mailed the tracking code. After the fish arrives at your place (alive), e-mail me that it arrived and I leave A+ feedback. If any DOA, then we get into the next step:
If any are DOA, e-mail me a picture as soon as the fish arrive with the fish STILL IN THE BAG, and tell me which ones are dead. Acclimate the other fish, but leave the dead one out. Sometimes they are at the brink of death, and ta-da! They’re alive! If any are still dead, I will refund you for the value of that fish.
I line the sides and bottom (not top) of the box with 1/2 or 1 inch thick styrofoam. Then, I place a shopping back over that to water proof it. I add newspaper to the bottom. Then, I place the fish bag in, and add more newspaper to the sides. I cover the fish bag with something else to protect it. Tape it up, and ship.
